Tough Girl Still?

I hated high school, absolutely could not stand it and couldn't wait to get out and move on. I was considered a tough kid and trouble maker mainly because I spoke my mind and was physically fit.(I never got into fights tho!)
Graduation day was going to be the most wonderful day in my life. I was going to grab that diploma and never look back.
Unfortunately they took too darn long with their speeches. It was then that I realized that while I was looking forward to leaving and starting college those 29 classmates surrounding me were with me for 7 years through good times and bad and I'd probably never see them again.
It was a small school: kindergarten through 12th grade in the same building. There wasn't one person in the whole school that you didn't know by name including the younger kids.
I managed to make it up to get the diploma but when I sat down the flood gates opened. I couldn't believe I was crying. There were others crying but for me it was totally embarrassing because I hated the place so much.
It was the people I was going to miss not the structure and I hadn't even realized that until the diplomas were handed out.
